Brest customs officers detained four Belarusian citizens who attempted to import cultural valuables from Poland. The women entered Belarus in a Ford vehicle via the Brest checkpoint, choosing the green corridor and declaring that they were not carrying goods subject to declaration.
During an inspection, 24 paintings and figurines, two stone clocks, a bust and a wall bas-relief were discovered in the vehicle and among personal belongings. The items had been concealed among personal effects. A customs laboratory determined that all objects were cultural valuables, with an expert concluding that they were produced more than 50 years ago. The total value of the seized items exceeds 32,000 Belarusian rubles.
Administrative proceedings have been initiated against the detainees under Part 2 of Article 15.1 of the Belarusian Code of Administrative Offenses. The sanction предусматривает a fine of up to 30 basic units with possible confiscation of the goods.
This is already the 11th similar case identified by Brest customs officers over the past month, the State Customs Committee of Belarus said.
