Charges Revealed Against Mazyr Human Rights Defender Uladzimir Tselyapun

Human rights defender from Mazyr Uladzimir Tselyapun is accused under articles on facilitating “extremist activity” (Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code) and defamation of Lukashenka (Article 367 of the Criminal Code), reports Homiel Viasna.

The 70-year-old Tselyapun was detained around early April. He is being held at pre-trial detention centre No. 3 in Homiel.

Uladzimir Tselyapun is known in the region for his human rights work, including defending the right to peaceful assembly. In 2019, he actively helped families raising children with disabilities when they were advocating for the continued operation of the Raduga rehabilitation centre. In 1986, he took part in dealing with the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. He has health problems.
