In Lida District, a driver hit two female cyclists, one of whom died. The tragedy occurred today at around 1 p.m. on the approach to Lida, the Investigative Committee press service reported.
A 38-year-old Volkswagen driver was travelling on the M-11/P2 road when he hit a cyclist crossing the carriageway outside a pedestrian crossing. After the collision, the car went off the road into a ditch, where it hit a second woman on a bicycle.
Both victims were taken to hospital. An 84-year-old pensioner died from her injuries despite doctors’ efforts. The 64-year-old participant in the accident remains under medical supervision.
The Lida District Department of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 317 of the Belarusian Criminal Code — violation of traffic rules resulting in death by negligence.
