Kanstantsin Bychek, chair of Belarus’s Investigative Committee, has made his first official visit to Russia since his appointment. He previously served as head of the KGB’s investigative department.

The trip took place at the invitation of Alyaksandr Bastrykin, head of Russia’s Investigative Committee. According to the Belarusian Investigative Committee, the meetings focused on developing modern approaches to crime investigation, expanding internship and professional training programmes for investigators, and aspects of legal assistance in specific criminal cases.

Bychek expressed gratitude for the invitation and emphasised the importance of maintaining close contacts.

“We view cooperation with our Russian colleagues as a key area of international partnership, allowing us to pool resources, exchange best practices and jointly respond to contemporary challenges. Only through joint efforts will we be able to minimise criminal activity, preserve social stability and ensure the security of citizens of the Union State,” he said.

Bastrykin highlighted the high level of “constructive interaction” with Belarusian counterparts.

“Our agencies are linked by many years of partnership based on trust, professionalism and shared approaches to upholding the rule of law. We highly value the readiness of our Belarusian colleagues for open dialogue and joint work. I am confident that today’s visit will form the basis for new initiatives aimed at improving the effectiveness of crime investigation and strengthening law and order,” he said.
