Belarusians Took Out 16.3 Billion Rubles in Bank Loans Over the Year

Over the year, Belarusians took out 16.3 billion rubles in bank loans, according to data published by the National Bank. Compared with 2024, the volume of lending to individuals decreased by 2.9 percent.

In December, banks issued 1.55 billion rubles in loans to individuals, which is 260 million rubles more than in November. The monthly volume of lending to individuals was 13.5 percent lower than in December 2024. The pace of lending to individuals by banks has been slowing since the second half of last year.

In 2025, individuals received 12.67 billion rubles in consumer loans, which is 1.8 percent less than in 2024, while the volume of real estate lending declined by 6.7 percent to 3.62 billion rubles.

Outstanding debt of individuals to banks increased by 370.5 million rubles in December and reached 29.79 billion rubles as of January 1. Over the year, it grew by 13.9 percent, or 3.63 billion rubles.

Debt on consumer loans increased by 16.6 percent to 11.79 billion rubles, while debt on real estate loans rose by 12.3 percent to 17.97 billion rubles.

As of January 1, individuals had overdue loans totaling 47.5 million rubles, which is 9 million rubles less than as of December 1. Over the year, the volume of overdue debt increased by 4.8 million rubles.
