Belarusian-made goods accounted for 54.6% of retail turnover in the first half of the year, according to Natallia Melnikava, head of the Trade and Public Catering Department at the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART), speaking at a press conference at the Press House.
“In January–June this year, the share of Belarusian goods sold amounted to 54.6%. We have recorded growth compared with last year. The share reached 75.4% for food products and 35.9% for non-food products. Sales of domestically produced goods increased across almost the entire range of basic vegetables, as well as confectionery, meat and fish products, infant formula and cereals, buckwheat, cars, perfumes and cosmetics, and other goods. The share of domestic products sold is also affected by the growth of imports in certain categories, including sales through online stores, that is, e-commerce,” she said.
For comparison, Belarusian-made goods accounted for 54.1% of retail turnover in the first quarter of this year, while the figure stood at 54.4% for the whole of last year.
This year, MART has set target indicators for the share of Belarusian-made goods for all regions.
“We have not yet reached the 58% target set by the government. At the same time, based on Belstat’s official statistics for the first half of the year, we can already say that all regions are making every effort to achieve this indicator. Many of them have already exceeded the 58% level. However, there are significant issues with Minsk and Minsk Region. There is still work to be done there,” Deputy Minister Sviatlana Karatkevich said.
