Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of an ASEAN event in Manila, reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness for a political and diplomatic settlement of the war in Ukraine, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

He also reaffirmed “commitment to the proposals put forward by the American side during the meeting between Presidents V.V. Putin and D. Trump in Anchorage, to which the Russian leader gave his consent.”

The Russian ministry said Lavrov conveyed to Rubio “information about the real situation on the front line and stressed the inadmissibility of further pumping the Kyiv regime with weapons, as well as the overall destabilising policies of European countries, which continue to seek to inflict a ‘strategic defeat’ on Russia.”

The sides also discussed regional and international issues, including the situation in the Persian Gulf. They welcomed the resumption of full-scale contacts between Roscosmos and NASA and expressed support for expanding interparliamentary exchanges and cultural ties.

The agenda also included the issue of normalising the operating conditions of the two countries’ diplomatic missions.

The sides agreed to continue contacts through their foreign ministries, including within the framework of the two countries’ participation in international organisations.

The U.S. Department of State has not yet published a statement on the outcome of the talks.
