Belarusian and Polish law enforcement bodies are conducting joint measures to determine the whereabouts of two Ukrainian nationals suspected of terrorist crimes on Polish territory, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said in an official statement.

The ministry confirmed that the suspects had entered Belarus, where “active search operations are already under way.” According to the statement, their contacts are being traced together with the Polish side, and “a range of additional operational measures” is being implemented.

The Foreign Ministry noted that if the two men are found in Belarus, they will be detained. Afterwards, “the possibility of transferring them to the Polish side will be considered, taking into account all circumstances of the case.”

According to the ministry, the cooperation is being carried out “in a spirit of partnership and good neighbourliness,” despite Poland not having yet submitted a formal request for legal assistance.

The case concerns recent acts of sabotage on railway infrastructure in Poland. The suspected perpetrators — two Ukrainian citizens — left the country for Belarus before their identities were established. Poland has since launched an operation involving military personnel to reinforce the protection of critical infrastructure.

Polish media have named the suspects as Yevhenii Ivanov and Oleksandr Kononov.
