Belarus’ foreign exchange reserves stood at $15.04 billion as of June 1, according to data published by the National Bank. The reserves decreased by $228.6 million in May.
“The reduction in foreign exchange reserves was due to a decline in gold prices on international markets, as well as payments on the external obligations of the government of the Republic of Belarus,” the National Bank said.
The value of monetary gold included in the reserves fell by $107.8 million in May to $7.88 billion, while the value of Special Drawing Rights declined by $7 million to $1.41 billion. Reserve assets in foreign currency decreased by $113.8 million to $5.75 billion.
The reserve position in the IMF and other assets remained unchanged at $0.03 billion and $0.1 million respectively.
Compared with January 1, the volume of foreign exchange reserves increased by $614.6 million. The value of monetary gold rose by $410.9 million, the value of Special Drawing Rights decreased by $4.7 million, and reserve assets in foreign currency increased by $208.3 million.
