Barysau District Utilities Director Accused of Bribery and Abuse of Office

The Investigative Committee is probing a criminal case against a 45-year-old director of one of the housing and utilities enterprises in the Barysau District. He is accused of taking a bribe and abusing his official authority.

According to investigators, in 2023 he concluded a number of supply contracts with a private company, which received an advance payment of 120,500 rubles. However, the company supplied goods worth only about 40,000 rubles. In addition, the supplies violated pricing rules: the wholesale markup reached 203 percent, while the permitted limit is 10 percent.

“As a result, supplies worth more than 80,000 rubles remained unfulfilled. The total damage to the state enterprise exceeded 94,500 rubles, which qualifies as an especially large amount,” the statement said.

A contract was also signed with the same company for routine repairs of a residential building on Maksim Gorky Street in Barysau. Under this contract, the firm received 20,000 rubles but completed work worth only 4,380.59 rubles.

Investigators say the reason for the director’s generosity was a bribe of 8,000 rubles.
