Banks Maintain Household Lending at March Level in April

Banks maintained lending to households in April at roughly the same level as in March. Loans totaling 1.54 billion Belarusian rubles were issued during the month, 20 million rubles less than in March. Compared with April last year, the volume of lending increased by 21.3%, according to data published by the National Bank of Belarus.

Overall, during the first four months of the year, the amount of loans issued by banks to individuals increased by 1.8% compared with the same period last year.

Consumer lending in January–April rose by 3.2% to 4.38 billion rubles. Lending for real estate purchases fell by 3.7% to 1.02 billion rubles.

Household debt on loans increased by 370.6 million rubles in April and stood at 30.68 billion rubles as of May 1. Over the past year, household loan debt grew by 12.1%.

Outstanding consumer loan debt increased by 14.2% to 12.29 billion rubles, while debt on real estate loans rose by 10.8% to 18.36 billion rubles.

As of May 1, individuals had overdue loans totaling 56.5 million rubles, 1.2 million rubles more than on April 1. Over the past year, the volume of overdue debt increased by 14.2 million rubles.
