Another batch of Su-30SM2 fighter jets has arrived in Belarus, the Ministry of Defense reported.

“The main task of military aviators is to protect the air borders of our country. They stand on the first line of defense. The arrival of new aviation equipment is always a celebration for military aviators. Piloting a fighter jet that has just come off the production line is honorable and gratifying, but it also entails great responsibility. The sense of responsibility felt by aviation personnel when servicing such aircraft is simply off the charts,” said Deputy Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces and Head of Aviation, Colonel Alyaksandr Bialiayeu.

The first flight of Su-30SM multirole fighters was delivered to Belarus in November 2019. It was reported that the Belarusian army had signed a contract for the delivery of 12 aircraft. By the end of 2022, another four fighters were supposed to be delivered, but the aircraft did not appear in Belarus in either 2022 or 2023. In 2024, another four fighters were delivered to Belarus without much publicity.

Subsequently, Russia decided to supply Belarus with Su-30SM2 aircraft instead of the Su-30SM.

The Su-30SM2 is a modernized Russian generation 4++ multirole fighter developed on the basis of the Su-30SM. It was designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It is equipped with new engines, a modernized radar, and an expanded range of weapons.

The first pair of Su-30SM2 aircraft arrived in Belarus only in May 2025. Another two aircraft arrived in August, and the next two in December.
