Since the beginning of the year, 140 minors in Belarus have fallen victim to cyber fraud. These figures were presented at a press conference by Raman Bardzeyeu, a senior inspector for special assignments at the department for organizing the work of juvenile inspections within the Main Directorate for Public Order Protection and Prevention of the Interior Ministry.
Of the 140 victims, nearly one-third experienced device lockouts.
“I would like to draw special attention to the fact that 49 of them were affected by the blocking of their iCloud accounts, or more precisely, Apple devices. Another 19 teenagers suffered because they themselves sent intimate photos to fraudsters. To prevent these images from being shared in school chats or sent to their parents, they were extorted for money,” he said.
This year, cybercriminals have also targeted minors by using threats to force them to “declare” their parents’ money and act as couriers.
