Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was ready to meet Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit if Putin comes to Miami. He made the remarks in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
Asked by a correspondent whether he was ready to travel to Miami to meet Putin, Zelenskyy answered in the affirmative.
“Yes, of course. We have to come. We have to meet, to speak and make decisions,” he said.
The Ukrainian leader added that what he planned to say to Putin was less important than the results.
“It’s not about words. What I will tell him or what he wants to tell me, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter. […] Results matter. That’s it,” he added.
Zelenskyy and Putin have not met in person since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The Kremlin has not yet said whether Putin will attend the G20 summit in Miami in December. The Russian leader has not personally attended G20 summits since 2019.
Zelenskyy called it a “good signal” that U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Kyiv rather than Moscow alone. He said Ukraine is now in a stronger position for negotiations than it was a year ago.
