A US delegation led by Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Thomas DiNanno visited the Polish-Belarusian border on May 12, the Podlaskie Voivodeship Office in Białystok reported.

Those attending the meeting included US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk, commander of the Podlaskie Border Guard unit Sławomir Klekotka, and Podlaskie Voivode Jacek Brzozowski.

The commander of the Podlaskie Border Guard unit stressed that all attempts at illegal border crossings had been prevented this year.

The American delegation also visited warehouses prepared as part of the Eastern Shield program.

Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk said that the Eastern Shield was the foundation of security not only for Poland and the European Union, but also for NATO as a whole, and emphasized the importance of cooperation between Poland and the United States.

“Poland is a major partner not only in terms of acquiring technology, but can also be a partner in cooperation. Our goal is for production to take place in Poland as well, in order to create joint capabilities that may serve the United States in the future. This is our shared goal today, and it is of enormous importance to us,” Tomczyk said.

DiNanno noted that both the United States and Poland understand the importance of border control and said that the US was ready to continue cooperation with Poland.
