On February 24, the UN General Assembly adopted the Ukraine-initiated resolution “Advancing a Comprehensive, Just and Lasting Peace in Ukraine.” The resolution was supported by 107 countries. Fifty-one countries abstained, and 12 voted against.

Belarus was among the countries that voted against the resolution. Those opposing it also included Russia, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Eritrea, Iran, Nicaragua, Niger, Mali, and Sudan. The United States abstained.

The resolution calls for an immediate ceasefire and reaffirms the need to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
