The Interior Ministry has added another 40 people to its “List of Citizens of the Republic of Belarus, Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons Involved in Extremist Activity”.
Among them is 38-year-old Ukrainian citizen Aliaksandr Vitalyevich Kavalenka. The list states that he is from the village of Yareva in the Pastavy District of the Vitsyebsk Region. He was convicted under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 361-4, which covers “facilitating extremist activity”, and is currently serving his sentence.
The “extremist list” now contains 6,703 names.
Belarusian authorities regularly use extremism-related charges in efforts to combat political opponents and dissent more broadly.
