The office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is in contact with Lithuanian authorities and is discussing options for the return of Belarusians currently in Lithuania.
“We are working to ensure that Belarusians who are now in Lithuania and planned to return to Belarus can do so safely. It is very important for us that, despite the regime’s provocations, passenger traffic across the border remains possible,” the Tsikhanouskaya Office said.
In the near future, the Lithuanian side is expected to designate a contact point and establish a mechanism to collect information from those who need assistance with this matter.
Earlier today, the Lithuanian government decided to close the Lithuanian-Belarusian border until November 30. The Šalčininkai checkpoint (Benjakoni on the Belarusian side) will be completely closed, while Medininkai (Kamenny Log) will continue to operate with restrictions for certain categories of travelers.
The decision to close the border was made in response to the launch of weather balloons carrying contraband from Belarus. Because of this, operations at Vilnius and Kaunas airports were suspended several times last week.
