Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said Poland is still verifying information provided by the Belarusian side about the alleged preparation of a “terrorist attack.”
“We take every terrorism warning seriously and verify it; this is a matter that arose only a few hours ago, and we are still examining it,” Sikorski said on July 24, RMF24 reports.
As reported earlier, Belarus’ Foreign Ministry said on July 23 that a Belarusian citizen was allegedly planning a terrorist attack in Poland, with the intended targets being the underage children of a Belarusian activist. The information was passed by the Belarusian side to Poland’s chargé d’affaires.
“It was reported that a person residing in Poland who had been convicted in the Republic of Belarus under a number of articles of the Criminal Code and who had recently been stripped by the Polish authorities of additional protection and the right to reside in the country was preparing a terrorist act. The primary targets were to be the underage children of a Belarusian activist living in Poland, who holds Belarusian citizenship, in retaliation for what the individual considered insufficient efforts to preserve the above-mentioned status in Poland,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.
The statement has already prompted a response from the Polish special services. Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for Poland’s minister-coordinator of special services, said that Poland takes any information about potential threats seriously.
