Another prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia is currently taking place on the territory of Belarus, BelTA reported.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the exchange is being conducted on a 160-for-160 basis. The Russian servicemen returned from captivity are currently in Belarus, where they are being assisted by Russia’s human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova. The United Arab Emirates provided humanitarian mediation during the exchange.
The exchange was also confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to him, all of the released Ukrainians had been held in captivity since 2022. They include members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service who defended Ukraine in Mariupol and at Azovstal, as well as on the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Chernihiv and Sumy fronts.
“Thank you to our entire team that works every day to bring our people home. Special thanks to all our units on the front line that replenish Ukraine’s exchange fund and, through their courage, make it possible for us to bring our people back. We remember everyone who remains in captivity. We are checking every single name. Everyone must be brought home — both military personnel and civilians,” the Ukrainian president said.
