Poland continues to review cases concerning international protection for former political prisoners who were forcibly expelled from Belarus. A total of 89 applications for international protection have been submitted. As of May 8, decisions had been issued in 63 cases. Another 26 cases remain under review, Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet Pavel Latushka reported, citing Head of Poland’s Office for Foreigners Tomasz Cytrynowicz.

“Together with human rights organisations, for several months we have been actively working with the Polish authorities on issues related to the legalisation of former political prisoners whom the Lukashenka regime deported from Belarus in the second half of 2025,” Latushka stated.

As a member of the working group on issues related to the stay of Belarusian citizens in Poland, established under Poland’s Ministry of Interior and Administration, Latushka continues to maintain contact with the Office for Foreigners regarding the review of international protection cases, the United Transitional Cabinet reports.

“We will continue working to ensure that all deported former political prisoners receive international protection status in Poland and other European countries,” the politician said.
