Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that new contacts have taken place between representatives of Russia and the United States. According to him, they occurred after Russian President’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev reported on his talks in Florida and the information was analysed.
“After Kirill Dmitriev reported on the results of his trip to America and the results of his contacts with the Americans, this information was analysed. And, in fact, on the instruction of President Putin, contacts took place. There was contact between representatives of the administrations of Russia and the United States. It was agreed to continue the dialogue,” he said, TASS reported.
According to Peskov, the Russian side was represented by presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, while there were several interlocutors on the American side.
“I cannot tell you that. There was such a telephone contact, and it was decided to continue the dialogue. That is the only thing we can say. We still believe that at the present moment the disclosure of this information could negatively affect the course of the negotiation process,” Peskov said in response to a request to elaborate on the substance of the conversation.
Earlier today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he had agreed on a meeting with US President Donald Trump. The meeting is expected to take place on Sunday. On the previous day, Zelenskyy held talks with representatives of the US president.
