Alyaksandr Lukashenka on Wednesday appointed a new Belarusian ambassador to Mongolia. Former head of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Mikhail Orda will take the post.

Orda led the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus until 2024. He then entered the House of Representatives. He was succeeded as head of the federation by Yury Senko.

In 2020, as head of the federation, Orda led Lukashenka’s election campaign group.

As he appointed Orda to Mongolia, Alyaksandr Lukashenka pretended to be surprised that the former trade union leader had agreed to go to the distant country.

“As for Mongolia, I was surprised that you agreed to go there. But I was told that you are almost Mongolian yourself – that you know Mongolia well and are ready to work and deliver results. We have excellent relations with Mongolia’s leadership. The president there is down-to-earth, good, sensible. But we need to start working with Mongolia”, he said.

Other appointments announced on Wednesday included changes at the Information Ministry and Culture Ministry and at the state news agency BelTA.
