Arkhangelsk Region Governor Alexander Tsybulsky of Russia proposed that Belarus use the region’s port capacity for cargo transshipment during a meeting with Aliaksandr Lukashenka. The region plans to build a deep-water port.

“Here we see major opportunities and prospects in terms of using existing capacity. We have the ability to handle up to 5 million tons of cargo and then send it eastward by sea. We are beginning to implement a major project to build a deep-water seaport in Arkhangelsk.

Here, too, we can cooperate with the Belarusian side and even identify specific areas that could be used to handle cargo from Belarus. There is an issue related to railway tariffs. We have taken the initiative to work on this with Russian Railways and the government”, Tsybulsky said, BelTA reported.

Another project proposed by the governor is the restoration of air service between Arkhangelsk and Minsk. According to him, the Arkhangelsk aviation unit is becoming the first operator of the new Il-114-300 regional passenger aircraft. The first aircraft is expected to be delivered at the end of the year, and the plan is to put it on this route.
