Kyrgyzstan has asked Belarus to supply fuel as part of measures aimed at ensuring the country’s energy security.

“To ensure stable fuel supplies, official requests have been sent to the relevant state authorities of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. At the same time, negotiations are under way to diversify supplies and expand international cooperation in this area,” Kyrgyzstan’s Energy Ministry said.

The measures come amid fuel shortages in Russia and Moscow’s ban on gasoline exports. Russia is also considering a complete ban on diesel exports.

Kyrgyzstan’s Energy Ministry said the country currently has sufficient fuel reserves and that supplies continue on a regular basis under previously concluded contracts.

At the same time, the ministry noted that the domestic market is being affected by developments on the global energy market, “including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, risks to international logistics and rising global oil prices.”
