A joint Belarusian-Omani investment fund will soon begin operating in Minsk. This was announced by Abdulsalam Al Murshidi , head of Oman’s Investment Authority.
According to BelTA, he said that a team has already been mobilised and will arrive in Minsk shortly to begin daily work at the fund’s office.
“The fund will focus on developing investment projects in industry, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and food, as well as in other sectors,” he said.
The topic of the investment fund was discussed today during Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s meeting with Al Murshidi.
The Omani official also stated that the main priority in cooperation between the two countries is the construction of a new pulp and board plant.
“We are very grateful to the president of Belarus for his thorough work on the projects and for being deeply involved in everything we discuss. His attention allows us to move very quickly, ahead of time, in implementing all the projects we have outlined. There are many opportunities in our cooperation, but we would like to focus first of all on building the pulp and board plant. This is our number one priority. And we are moving very quickly in implementing this project,” he said.
He also commented on efforts to establish a Belarusian hub in Oman.
“In this regard we have already fine-tuned logistics routes for delivering Belarusian products to Oman. We know well how to do business and what demand exists on the Indian subcontinent and in East Africa. We hope to jointly sell high-quality Belarusian goods not only in Oman but also in other countries. We have already established several joint logistics companies in Oman aimed at selling Belarusian agricultural products and foodstuffs, and we are also considering the petroleum sector. We hope the new companies will work in this direction to distribute Belarusian products across the region,” he said.
According to him, Muscat would like to monetise its relationship with Minsk.
“We have already achieved a great deal in our cooperation. First of all, we have built a relationship of trust between our countries. Our teams are doing their work very well, developing bilateral projects. Belarus and Oman complement each other: some resources are in Oman, others in Belarus. Moreover, we share common values, which also allows us to look confidently into the future of our relations,” Al Murshidi concluded.
