A Belarusian weightlifter caught doping has paid 120,000 rubles to the state, the prosecutor’s office reported.

In December 2023, the Republican Center for Olympic Training Stayki hired the athlete as an instructor-athlete for Belarus’s national team. He was also included in the national squad for 2024.

The athlete violated anti-doping rules and was disqualified for four years in July 2024. Following this, his employment contract was terminated. Under the law, athletes dismissed due to doping are required to pay monetary compensation to their employer and reimburse funds spent on their training.

“According to information provided by the Republican Center for Olympic Training, as of the date of termination of the fixed-term employment contract, the amount subject to reimbursement totaled 3,000 base units (120,000 rubles).

During the pre-trial review, the defendant voluntarily reimbursed 50,000 rubles. After the preliminary court hearing, the defendant voluntarily paid the remaining amount of expenses in full, totaling 70,000 rubles,” the prosecutor’s office said.

A state duty of 3,500 rubles was also recovered from the athlete.

The website of the National Anti-Doping Agency contains information about the July 2024 disqualification of Yahor Hrynko.
