Two Belarusian citizens are facing criminal proceedings in Poland for smuggling refrigerants.
Polish customs officers at the Bobrowniki border crossing inspected two passenger vehicles. They discovered modified gas systems in the cars. Investigators found that the modifications had been made to transport R134a and R404a refrigerants. These substances are prohibited for use in new equipment within the European Union.
Two cylinders containing more than 80 litres of refrigerants were seized, the Tax Administration Chamber in Białystok reported.
Criminal tax proceedings have been initiated against the drivers, both Belarusian citizens. The vehicles were seized as evidence.
