Airspace over Vilnius Airport was closed from 21:46 to 23:35 after navigation markers resembling weather balloons used for smuggling were detected. After 22:00, flights were resumed, Delfi reports.
This is not the first such incident — in November and December 2025 Vilnius Airport was repeatedly closed for the same reason. At the end of 2025, the Lithuanian government declared a nationwide state of emergency because of airborne smuggling, and in October the border with Belarus was closed.
Up-to-date information on schedule changes is available on the website vilnius-airport.lt, and airlines also notify passengers directly.
