The United Transitional Cabinet has issued a statement regarding negotiations on a peace plan for Ukraine and is urging the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom to hold a political conference on Belarus.
“The United Transitional Cabinet welcomes the intensification of negotiations between Ukraine, the United States and the European Union on developing a peace plan for Ukraine.
While welcoming the efforts of all sides, we emphasise the importance of defending the interests of Ukraine, which has faced unprecedented aggression from Russia with the involvement of the Lukashenka regime,” the UTC said.
The UTC calls on the United States and the EU to develop a unified position on the future of Belarus, and proposes holding a political conference to resolve the country’s internal political crisis and launch a national dialogue.
“The United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus appeals to partners in the United States and the European Union on the importance of developing a unified position on the future of the Republic of Belarus, with key conditions being the preservation of independence and sovereignty and the implementation of democratic reforms.
We appeal to the administration of President Donald Trump, to the governments of EU member states and to the United Kingdom with a proposal to hold a political conference dedicated to resolving the deep internal political crisis and facilitating the start of a national dialogue in Belarus, given that Belarusian society faces unprecedented repression — the most extensive in Europe in recent decades — as well as unprecedented informational, ideological, military and political influence from the Russian Federation,” the statement said.
The UTC stresses that lifting sanctions on the Lukashenka regime can occur only if its policies change and once a full-fledged dialogue begins.
“We consider it important to note that lifting sanctions from the Lukashenka regime must be conditional on changes to its repressive domestic and aggressive foreign policies, as well as the start of full-fledged dialogue with Belarusian society and democratic institutions,” the statement said.
The UTC says it will hold “active consultations with all interested parties to overcome the deep internal political crisis in Belarus.”
