Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya expressed gratitude to the United States for efforts to secure the release of political prisoners in a post on X.
“I appreciate the efforts of 🇺🇸 Special Envoy John Coale and President Donald Trump to secure the release of political hostages in Belarus. As I said before, the United States has the leverage to help make this happen. This is about saving people’s lives. Every day matters,” she wrote in English.
It should be noted that a visit by a US delegation led by John Coale to Minsk is expected this week. According to Lithuanian media, he will arrive in Vilnius on March 18 and then travel to the Belarusian capital.
On Friday Alyaksandr Lukashenka also confirmed an upcoming meeting with the Americans. Among the topics of the talks he named political prisoners, the restoration of the embassy’s work, economic issues and sanctions.
