Head of the United Transitional Cabinet Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, together with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, Polish President Karol Nawrocki, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, honored the memory of the participants of the 1863–1864 uprising at Rasos Cemetery in Vilnius.
As part of the commemorations, the leader of the democratic forces also attended a memorial service at Vilnius Cathedral. After the service, participants went to Rasos Cemetery, where they laid wreaths in memory of those who fought against imperial violence. The events were attended by Tsikhanouskaya’s advisers Franak Viačorka and Dzianis Kuchynski, as well as representatives of the Belarusian community of Vilnius.
Tsikhanouskaya expressed gratitude to all Belarusians who came to honor the memory of the insurgents.
“I thank everyone who came to these commemorations today. Your presence is a sign that the memory of the struggle for freedom lives in the hearts of Belarusians regardless of where we are.
The memory of the 1863–1864 uprising remains relevant today, when Belarusians continue their struggle for freedom, independence, and the democratic future of their country. The legacy of Kastuś Kalinoŭski reminds us that the struggle for dignity and human rights is a shared value that unites generations,” the press service quoted her as saying.
