Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya commented on a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the threat posed by Russia on the Belarusian front.

“Russia is once again trying to drag Belarus deeper into its war against Ukraine. But Belarus is not Lukashenka. The Belarusian people do not want this war and do not want our country to become a launchpad for new aggression against Ukraine or Europe,” the politician wrote on X.

She thanked the Ukrainian leader for speaking openly about these threats and called for unity to stop Russia’s attempts to spread the war across the region.

“Thank you, Mr. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, for speaking clearly and persistently about these threats. We must unite to stop Russia’s attempts to spread the war throughout our entire region,” the democratic forces leader stressed.

As previously reported, following a meeting with the leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff, military intelligence, the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Security Service of Ukraine, Zelenskyy said that Russia was trying to draw Belarus deeper into the war against Ukraine and was considering plans for operations from Belarusian territory against Ukraine or a NATO member state.

He warned that Ukraine would defend itself “if Alyaksandr Lukashenka makes a mistake and decides to support this Russian intention as well.”

Zelenskyy instructed officials to strengthen the relevant direction in Ukraine and present a response plan.
