A total of 33 trucks that had been held on Belarusian territory since last autumn have now returned to Lithuania.

“According to our estimates, by this morning, around seven o’clock, a total of 33 trucks with Lithuanian license plates had returned,” Giedrius Mišutis told the BNS agency on Wednesday morning.

Sixteen vehicles crossed through the Medininkai checkpoint and 17 through Šalčininkai. These trucks are being inspected in separate lanes.

“On the Lithuanian side, at both checkpoints, separate lanes and corridors have been set up for incoming trucks. Their inspection is carried out very quickly. This is a temporary measure adopted in view of the fact that they have begun to be released and are returning from Belarus,” a Border Guard representative said.

According to him, nearly all of the trucks were driven by Belarusian citizens holding residence permits in Lithuania. One driver was a Polish citizen, and one or two others were from different countries.

Previously detained trucks account for about one-sixth of the total flow of freight transport crossing the border.
