A student from Sri Lanka who was in his fourth year at one of Vitsyebsk universities has been deported from Belarus for fraud. Foreign students were invited to attend the court hearing, the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitsyebsk Regional Executive Committee reported.

In July 2025, a first-year student complained to the Sri Lankan student about his problems. After a conflict with security at an entertainment venue, he believed he would face trouble. The fourth-year student promised to help his junior fellow student for 300 rubles. The first-year student handed over the money, but when it became clear that he had no legal problems, he demanded that the sum be returned. The fourth-year student refused to give the money back, and the victim contacted the police.

A criminal case on fraud charges was opened against the fourth-year student. Due to the application of administrative liability measures, the case was terminated. The foreign national was fined 30 base units (1,350 rubles). A decision was also taken to deport him from Belarus with a five-year ban on entry.
