In recent days, Polish customs officers have intercepted several shipments of smuggled Belarusian cigarettes. They were being transported in trucks, in a coal wagon and in a container from China.
The largest shipment — 24,000 packs of cigarettes — was discovered on a freight train during an inspection at the terminal in Małaszewicze. Inside a container carrying goods from China were several dozen boxes of Belarusian cigarettes. Their value is estimated at more than 420,000 zloty (115,500 dollars).
In Koroszczyn, cigarettes were found in three trucks. They had been hidden in the cabins and in refrigeration units. A total of more than 1,900 packs were seized, with a total value of more than 33,500 zloty (9,200 dollars). The drivers were fined a total of 46,500 zloty (12,800 dollars).
Another roughly 5,000 packs of cigarettes were found in a coal wagon in Kuźnica. The value of the cigarettes is estimated at more than 85,000 zloty (23,300 dollars).
