The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with the Defence Forces, struck the Kirishinefteorgsintez oil refinery and an oil pumping station in Russia’s Leningrad region, the agency said in a statement.
Earlier, Leningrad region governor Aleksandr Drozdenko reported a fire in an industrial zone in Kirishi following drone attacks. According to him, the main target of the strike was the refinery. In the morning, Drozdenko said the fire had been contained.
According to the SBU, the attack on the refinery resulted in hits on three units responsible for primary oil processing, while a storage tank with petroleum products was struck at the pumping station.
The Kirishinefteorgsintez refinery is among the three largest plants in Russia, with a capacity of 20–21 million tonnes of oil per year.
