Political prisoner Volha Mayorava is in poor condition. She can barely see and is receiving threats, a former inmate of Women’s Colony No. 24 who saw Mayorava before her release told Radio Svaboda.
“She is in very poor condition. First of all, because of her health, as she sees very poorly and is gradually losing the remainder of her eyesight in the colony. She can already barely see. Secondly, as she says, she is being threatened, so she seriously fears for her life,” the former inmate said.
Volha Mayorava was convicted in 2022 in the so-called Avtukhovich case. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison. She was charged under five articles of the Criminal Code. Mayorava did not admit guilt during the trial.
In March 2024, she was tried in a new criminal case for disobeying the colony administration and received an additional 1.5 years in prison. She is currently serving her sentence in Colony No. 24 in Zarechcha. Because of her status as a “terrorist,” she is not allowed to receive medicines and medical parcels from relatives.
