Polish military forces have again recorded objects entering the country’s airspace from Belarus. These may once again have been weather balloons used by smugglers.
“On the night of February 1 to 2, 2026, Polish military radar systems recorded the entry into Polish airspace of objects resembling balloons.
The scale of Belarusian hybrid incidents was significantly smaller compared with previous nights. Cooperation between the Polish Armed Forces and state security services enables these services to respond promptly, including seizing objects and detaining individuals suspected of involvement in these incidents,” the Operational Command of the branches of the Polish Armed Forces said in a statement.
Poland’s police and Border Guard have not yet reported the discovery of any objects that entered from Belarus overnight.
It should be noted that Polish military officials have been reporting incidents involving balloons for the third consecutive day.
At the end of last week, border guards in the Podlaskie Voivodeship detained two Belarusian citizens aged 37 and 39 on suspicion of cigarette smuggling using weather balloons. A court ordered their detention for three months pending the investigation.
According to the Podlaskie Border Guard unit, in 2025 cigarette contraband worth more than 3.4 million zlotys was transported into Poland using weather balloons. Twenty-nine people were detained.
