New Zealand has expanded its sanctions against Russia and the supply chains of its oil, Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced.
“New Zealand has imposed sanctions on 65 vessels of the shadow fleet engaged in transporting Russian oil, which is a key source of funding for Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine,” he said.
Sanctions have also been imposed on individuals from Belarus, Iran, and North Korea involved in processing and transporting Russian oil, as well as facilitating oil-related payments.
“These entities are part of a broader network that sustains trade in Russian oil, undermining global efforts to cut funding for Russia’s illegal war. By targeting the oil supply chain, New Zealand is acting decisively in support of international efforts to bring Russia to the negotiating table,” Peters explained.
Belarusian companies Naftan and Belneftekhim have been added to New Zealand’s sanctions list. The list also includes two North Korean banks, two individuals from North Korea and Iran, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, and two stevedoring companies operating in the ports of Novorossiysk and Tuapse.
