Minsk Resident Sentenced to Corrective Labour for Refusing Military Training Call-Up on Religious Grounds

A court in Minsk has sentenced a 38-year-old man to six months of corrective labour for refusing to attend military training exercises, the agency Minsk-Novosti reported.

In October 2025, the Minsk resident, who works as a store labourer, received a summons to attend military training. On October 7, he appeared at the military commissariat but refused to take part in the exercises, stating that doing so would contradict his religious beliefs.

A criminal case was subsequently opened against him. During the trial, the man pleaded not guilty. The court found him guilty of evading a call-up for military training and sentenced him to six months of corrective labour, with 20% of his earnings to be withheld and transferred to the state.
