Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service on Wednesday prevented 35 migrants from crossing the border from Belarus. This is a new daily “record” for this year. On Monday, Lithuanian border guards reported detaining 34 migrants.

Among those attempting to cross the border on Wednesday was one woman, while the rest were men. The detainees identified themselves as citizens of Afghanistan, Iran, Morocco, Pakistan and Somalia. None of them had documents, except for one Afghan national. Lithuanian border guards noted that some of the migrants did not manage to cross the border and retreated after spotting a Lithuanian patrol.

As on Monday, most of them attempted to cross in the area of the Čepkeliai nature reserve, where there is no border fence.

Fourteen migrants attempted to cross the Latvian border on 1 April. Polish border guards did not record any crossing attempts.
