One of the mechanised units has been put on combat readiness as part of an inspection of the Armed Forces of Belarus. This was reported on 23 January by the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alyaksandr Valfovich.
According to him, in line with the inspection plan, a unit of the North-West Operational Command was suddenly brought to combat readiness under peacetime staffing levels.
“A group of staff from the State Secretariat arrived and handed over an order signed personally by the President,” the Defence Ministry quoted him as saying. “The brigade commander familiarised himself with the order, clarified priority tasks and issued the relevant instructions. Commanders departed to carry out their tasks.”
Valfovich noted that a distinctive feature of the current inspection is that Alyaksandr Lukashenka is personally bringing military units to combat readiness, bypassing the Defence Ministry and the General Staff.
“The goal is to see an objective picture and the real state of the troops,” Lukashenka’s press service said.
