The Belarusian Railway has launched a new logistics service, the Slavic Caravan, connecting Belarus and Kazakhstan. The first freight train departed today from Orsha-Vostochnaya station.
According to the Belarusian Railway’s press service, the train is carrying wood products, foodstuffs, including sugar and potato starch, as well as compound feed. The Slavic Caravan service is scheduled to depart from Orsha twice a month.
The Belarusian Railway plans to expand the range of cargo in the future and include wagons carrying containers delivered by road.
“Cargo has previously been transported along the Belarus–Uzbekistan route. However, together with our Uzbek colleagues, we have developed a completely new, higher-quality service. The train will travel through Russia and Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan without being broken up or making additional stops. This will almost halve delivery times while ensuring the reliable preservation of the cargo,” said Valery Varenich, head of the Belarusian Railway.
A second train has already been assembled.
