On April 16, Latvian border guards pulled two tractor tires filled with Belarusian cigarettes from the Daugava River.

A border patrol spotted suspicious objects in the river near Piedruja. After approaching them by boat, the border guards discovered that they were two tractor tires with bundles wrapped in plastic film. Inside were more than 62,000 NZ Gold Superslim cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.

A criminal case has been opened, the Latvian Border Guard Service reported.

This is already the second raft with cigarettes to drift into Latvia from Belarus within a week. Similar tires were pulled from the river on April 10.
