The coalition of Pavel Latushka and the For Freedom movement has announced its joint participation in the upcoming elections to the Coordination Council. The vote is scheduled to take place from May 11 to May 17.
A statement on behalf of the coalition was delivered by the head of the National Anti-Crisis Management and Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet Pavel Latushka and the leader of the For Freedom movement Yuras Hubarevich. They emphasized that for many Belarusians participation in free and democratic elections had long remained only a dream, as holding such elections inside the country is currently impossible.
According to the coalition’s representatives, the creation of the Coordination Council became an important step toward forming democratic representation of Belarusians. Two years ago, as noted in the statement, thousands of citizens took part in elections to this body despite pressure and threats from Belarusian authorities.
Latushka and Hubarevich said that their political alliance already has experience of joint work and forming coalitions. The statement stresses that the alliance intends to continue its political activity in the Coordination Council and participate in its further work.
The authors of the appeal also said that one of the results of their activities was the start of an investigation by the International Criminal Court into alleged crimes against humanity which, according to them, were committed against the Belarusian people by the regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
Among the goals of participating in the elections, the coalition’s representatives named strengthening the international representation of Belarusians and ensuring that the views of Belarusian citizens are taken into account in Europe and on the international stage. According to them, Belarus should take “a worthy place in the family of free European nations.”
In conclusion, the coalition’s representatives called on Belarusians to support their list in the Coordination Council elections and take part in the vote.
