Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet and Head of the National Anti-Crisis Management Pavel Latushka met with Deputy Director of the Department of Global Policy at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Adam Krzywosądzki.
According to the United Transitional Cabinet, the meeting focused on the issue of extraterritorial persecution of Belarusians residing in Poland. Latushka presented information about the proactive persecution of Belarusian democratic forces abroad by the regime. He emphasized that Alyaksandr Lukashenka has no intention of halting the repressions.
“The Universal Periodic Review presented on November 3 in Geneva within the framework of the UN Human Rights Council, which concerns the human rights situation in Belarus, and the lack of response from the Lukashenka regime to more than 220 international recommendations on changes in human rights policy, as well as its withdrawal from several international human rights treaties, demonstrate the regime’s desire only to continue and intensify repressions,” Latushka noted.
The meeting also addressed cooperation with Poland within the framework of the Group of Friends of Democratic Belarus in the OSCE.
The parties analyzed and presented their positions on the possible use of international legal instruments to ensure accountability for human rights violations in Belarus and transnational crimes committed against Belarusians abroad.
The representative of the Polish Foreign Ministry stated that Poland would continue to support Belarusian society in protecting and restoring human rights and would assist in collecting evidence of unlawful actions against Belarusians.
“The fact that Poland remains one of the leading allies of the democratic forces of Belarus on human rights issues is an important signal of support for our work to use international mechanisms and instruments to achieve justice for the victims of the unprecedented repressions committed by the Lukashenka regime, both in Belarus and abroad,” Latushka concluded.
