Chairman of the Board of the National Bank and former prime minister Raman Halouchenka is seeking a seat in the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly (VNS). However, by position, the head of the regulator is not among those who automatically become delegates to the VNS. Therefore, today Halouchenka attended an extraordinary congress of the Federation of Trade Unions.

“One of the main items on the agenda is the election of delegates to the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly. Among the candidates is the chairman of the National Bank’s Board,” the National Bank’s press service reported.

According to the law, delegates to the VNS, in addition to the incumbent president and a president who has left office, include:

  • representatives of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches;
  • representatives of local councils of deputies;
  • representatives of civil society.

Last year, during the VNS, Halouchenka was prime minister and therefore a delegate by virtue of his office. This year, however, he must enter the VNS under the quota for “representatives of civil society.”
