Former political prisoner and defendant in the Press Club case Dzianis Sakalousky has died, Nasha Niva reported.
According to the Belarusian Association of Journalists, he died on February 21.
Dzianis Sakalousky’s daughter, Vasilina Sakalouskaya, confirmed the information about his death.
“My dad is gone. He was only 47 years old. I do not yet know exactly how and what happened. Right now I am just in pain and need to understand how to live with this going forward. But I want people to write about my dad, to know him and remember him. Because he was a wonderful person, loved people, and did a great deal for journalism and art,” she wrote on Instagram.
Dzianis Sakalousky was detained on December 22, 2020, in the Press Club case and released on August 23, 2021, on the basis of a “pardon.” After his release, he was forced to leave for Germany.
Sakalousky worked as a cameraman at the Belarus-1 television channel for more than ten years and left the company shortly after the 2020 election.
