The balance on Belarus’s foreign exchange market in January favored supply. Foreign currency sales exceeded purchases by $124.7 million, according to the latest data from the National Bank of Belarus.
Foreign exchange market turnover in January amounted to $10.35 billion, up 24 percent compared with the same month of 2025.
In January, individuals bought $995.2 million worth of foreign currency and sold $1.04 billion. As a result, they were net sellers of foreign currency in the amount of $44.9 million.
Banks purchased $5.64 billion worth of foreign currency last month and sold $5.62 billion. They generated net demand of $20.2 million.
Non-residents bought $174.1 million worth of foreign currency in January and sold $332 million. Net supply from their side amounted to $157.9 million.
Finally, resident business entities bought $3.21 billion worth of foreign currency in January and sold $3.16 billion. Net demand from this group totaled $57.9 million.
